Joaquin Salvador Lavado Badger (Guaymallén, Province of Mendoza, Argentina, July 17, 1932), better known as Quino, is a thinker, cartoonist and creator of the national comic of Argentina. His most famous work is the comic strip Mafalda (originally published between 1964 and 1973).
Quino at 80 years old and with 928 thousand Mafalda cartoons represents 50 years of the life as a faithful spokesman in what is now ‘the critique of Mafalda’. Not more that ‘a healthy common sense’ characterized as an individualistic and tough girl, always with many questions. Her confused ideas on social policy originate in not understanding why there exists the poor or the reasons for war, serious mistrust is the state and its suspicion of the Chinese. Mafalda is always seen though perhaps not understood as the 8 year old girl who ‘knows too much’.
